Star Guardian Orianna was released in July 2022 during League Of Legends’ Star Guardian Event. I was incredibly honoured to be asked by League of Legends UK to recreate this gorgeous skin in line with the event! I have taken dance classes for most of my life since around the age of 5 right into my early 20s, and so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to combine both of my passions- cosplay and dance. Sadly I haven’t had the chance to take ballet classes in a few years now, but this cosplay gave me the opportunity to reconnect with that. I should also note, I have had proper pointe training and know how to wear these shoes correctly. If you are not a trained/experienced dancer then under no circumstances should you wear these shoes just for a cosplay photoshoot!
I only had around a month to make this costume, so it was another intense crafting crunch! It was my first time making a proper tutu skirt (which I made with the help of this tutu pattern) and it was intense! The main body of the skirt consists of 5 layers of tulle which all had to be gathered by hand. The top layer is 2 layers of iridescent organza, each layer consisting of 3 combined circle skirts, which I sewed horsehair braid into the hem of to give it that special *poof*.
The bodice and other “armour” pieces were all constructed in a similar way to each other. I made the base shape out of 2-5mm EVA foam which I covered in fabric, either by sewing a fabric “sleeve” or by contact gluing it directly to the foam. The main fabrics I used were:
The wig was a Jeannie + hair bun in Aqua from Arda Wigs Europe, which I airbrushed pink tips onto by hand.
The ball prop was made entirely from EVA foam from Polyprops, also using their own brand of Hexflex primer/paint.
I had the amazing opportunity to wear this costume to the League of Legends LEC Finals in Malmö, Sweden and again to Worlds Finals in San Francisco, USA in late 2022.
